Conventional Fire Alarm Heat Detectors
MIR-600 SERIES
HEAT DETECTORS
Description
Mircom’s MIR-600 Series Heat Detectors are attractive, durable and feature combination rate-of-rise and fixed temperature operation. Mircom’s MIR-600 heat detectors are available in 57°C and 93°C temperature ratings. Rate-of-rise detects heat by quickly responding to a rapid temperature increase. Rate-of-rise units have a wide spacing allowance of 50-foot centers. See specification table for details. Fixed temperature reacts to heat by responding to a specific temperature setting. Mircom’s MIR-600 Series detectors use the same reliable pneumatic rate-of-rise element of former models, but offer added aesthetic appeal.
The pneumatic rate-of-rise element responds to a rapid rise in temperature, approximately 8°C per minute, by expansion of air within the sealed chamber faster than it can escape through a calibrated vent. The resultant increase in pressure depresses the diaphragm, causing the electrical contact to close the circuit. The fixed temperature element uses a fusible alloy. When activated, the external heat collector drops away to provide quick visual confirmation that the element has operated. The units protrude only 1-3/8 inch from the ceiling surface with a junction box mounting. They have pleasing contours and an all-white finish that conforms to ceiling aesthetics.
Features
- Dual Action Rate-of-Rise and Fixed Temperature Models available
- One or Two, Normally Open Contacts available
- Easy Installation
- Visual indication
- Operation Testing
- Complementary, low profile white exterior finish
- Temperature 57°C for MIR-601 and 93°C for MIR-621
- Max space allowance between detectors 15.2m
- Recommended coverage 232m2
Installation
Each detector includes a patented reversible mounting plate. In one position, it easily attaches to 104mm junction box, 84.5mm octagon box or plaster ring.
In reverse, the plate can be used for open wiring without a junction box. A 6.5mm space between detector and mounting surface allows for wire connections. All mounting screws are concealed. The detector simply attaches to the mounting plate with a push and twist motion. No tools are required. The mounting plate is molded of white self-extinguishing thermoplastic rated at 105°C. The plate is extremely strong yet adapts to uneven mounting surfaces.
NOTE A
Maximum detector coverage has been determined by ULC to provide detection time equal to sprinkler devices at 3m intervals on a smooth ceiling 4.8m high. Higher ceilings can adversely affect detection time. In some instances, earlier detection time may be obtained by reducing the spacing between the detectors. Refer to the latest edition of CAN/ULC-S524, Standard for the Installation of Fire Systems, section heat detectors.
NOTE B
FM Rates this Detector at 9.14m spacing. This is the maximum FM rating available.
NOTE C
Maximum distance shown is from any wall partition or ceiling projection extending down more than 305mm. The coverage and spacing figures given here are intended as a guide only. Heat detectors must be spaced and installed as per the specific requirements outlined in the ULC codes as well as all other applicable national and local code requirements.
MIR-600 Testing Methods
Models 601/621 and 602/622 can be tested by the application of quick heat from any convenient source. A portable hair dryer is recommended. However, do not apply heat that exceeds the fixed temperature rating of the detector. Models 603/623 and 604/624 cannot be tested. However, the fusible alloy element is generally considered so reliable that testing is not necessary.
MIRCR & MIRCF SERIES
HEAT DETECTORS

Description
The MIRCR & MIRCF Series Heat Detectors provide reliable fire detection by responding to both Rate of Temperature increase (known as “Rate of Rise”), as well as preset temperature level.
MIRCR-135
The MIRCR-135 is a combination Rate-of-Rise and Fixed Temperature detector. A set of normally open contacts will close when the ceiling temperature increases at a minimum rate of 8.4°C per minute. Closing the contacts initiates the fire alarm sequence. Independent of the rate-of-rise operation, the fixed temperature portion consists of a spring-loaded plunger retained by a fusible alloy that releases when the ceiling temperature reaches 57°C (135°F). When released, the plunger strikes the contacts and holds them closed. Spacing on an uninterrupted ceiling is 21.3 m for the rate-of-rise and 12.2 m for the fixed temperature portion.
MIRCF-135
The MIRCF-135 is a Fixed Temperature detector. The fixed temperature portion consists of a spring-loaded plunger retained by a fusible alloy that releases when the ceiling temperature reaches 57°C. When released, the plunger strikes a normally open set of contacts and holds them closed. Spacing on an uninterrupted ceiling is 12.2 m. The MIRCF-135 is identified by a black dot on its heat collector fin.
Features
- Dual Action Rate of Rise & Fixed Temperature
- Detects Rate of Ambient temperature rise of 8°C
- Detectors operating on fixed temperatures are available in two settings of 57°C or 93°C
- Complementary white exterior finish
- Easy Installation
MIRCR-200
The MIRCR-200 is a combination Rate-of-Rise and Fixed Temperature detector that operates in the same way as the MIRCR-135, with the exception that the fixed temperature portion releases when the ceiling temperature reaches 93°C. Spacing parameters for the rate-of-rise is 21.3 m. The Fixed Temperature portion is 7.6 m. The MIRCR-200 is identified by a white dot on its heat collector fin.
MIRCF-200
The MIRCF-200 is a Fixed Temperature detector. The fixed temperature portion releases when the ceiling temperature reaches 93°C . Spacing is 7.6m. The MIRCF-200 is identified by a black dot and a white dot on the heat collector fin.
Engineering Specifications
The MIRCR-135 automatic rate-of-rise heat detectors shall be installed in areas where ambient temperatures do not exceed 38°C. In areas where ambient temperature remains between 38°C. and 65°C., specify the MIRCR-200 detectors. In areas where sudden increases in ceiling temperature are normal, specify Fixed Temperature units, with fusible settings of 57°C. and 93°C. Operations:
CR-135-EWT and CR-200-EWT Rate-of-Rise Models:
A temperature increase at the detector of 9°C or more per minute activates the rate-of-rise feature. This closes the contacts in the detector to transmits the alarm condition to the fire alarm control panel. When the rate-of-rise element alone has been activated, the detector is self-restoring.
CF-135-EWT and CF-200-EWTFixed Temperature Models:
If the temperature of the centre disk rises to the detector’s rated temperature, the fixed temperature element activates. This closes contacts in the detector and transmit the alarm condition to the fire alarm control panel. The fixed temperature element is non-restorable and when activated, the detector must be replaced. The need for replacement is indicated when the centre disk has fallen free from the detector
